Our work at Antonio Páez Lobato cooperage is inextricably linked to great wines, wonderful whiskeys and exceptional spirits. Our master coopers have been able to transmit, through generations, their talent, knowledge, experience and love for a job well done. We are a family business where we have relentlessly been combining the tradition of artisan work with the new contributions of oenological research for more than 70 years, to continue offering the highest quality in all our barrels.
The Antonio Páez Lobato cooperage was founded in 1946 as a result of Don Antonio Páez’s enthusiasm and business vision. Nowadays, we supply customers throughout Spain and we export more than 32.000 oak barrels to whiskey and rum distilleries around the world. With a qualified staff of more than 55 coopers, on a site with a surface of 30.000 m² and an inventory of 12.000 m3 of Oak pieces naturally air-drying in our yards, the name of our Cooperage Antonio Páez Lobato is proudly associated with some of the best brands of whiskey in the world
More than seven decades of experience allow us to export more than 32.000 barrels every year.
30.000 m² are dedicated to the air-drying of our Oakwood inventory and the production of the casks.
More than 12.000 m³ of Oakwood are currently air-drying at our several yards.
We are the only Cooperage in Jerez with our own winery, Bodegas Paez Morilla, where we season our Sherry Casks for our customers.
We offer to our clients high quality, custom-made barrels which they can select the origin of the Oakwood, the kind of toasting and the type of wine of their choice that best suits their needs.
We are committed to quality, carrying out a rigorous control at each stage of the making of our casks, from the selection of the best raw materials at origin to the air-drying, toasting and seasoning of the finished barrels at our winery (Bodegas Páez Morilla).
Thanks to the unique setting and the ideal climate we enjoy, we make the ideal, most natural air-drying of the wood for a period of 24 months, resulting in the perfect wood to make our casks.
Our customers can choose the level of toasting of the barrels so that they can obtain the final flavours, aromas and nuances they want for the product they will mature inside. That is why we always use Oak shavings and scraps as the only source of energy for our fires.
SEASONING OF THE CASKS
Our seasoned casks (Sherry Casks), which we fill with sherry in our own winery Bodegas Páez Morilla, impart to the maturing whiskies and spirits the full aroma and flavour of the inimitable fortified wines from Jerez.
